SNACKLAS tRAVEL aPP
The Snacklas (etymology: "snack" + "atlas") travel app is a 16 page-long prototype for an original, trendy local restaurant and small business-locating mobile application created in Adobe XD, with accompanying materials being made in Adobe InDesign. Its function is to locate small businesses within a small radius around the user, as well as display user-submitted comments and media to draw attention to small businesses struggling as a result of the global COVID-19 pandemic.
Snacklas was also created with the intention of highlighting and having obvious user microinteractions, such as changing button colors on tap, universally understood icons, etc.
The prototype is available to view here.
Style Tile

This style tile was created before prototyping, with focus on core concepts such as keeping the app looking trendy and aesthetically "groovy" to appeal to its target audience, young adults (especially Gen Z and Millennials) who are socially conscious and want to support small businesses whenever possible. The muted pastel colors were used to be easy on the eyes of a user, but also give the app a distinct identity and set it apart from more corporate styled apps with a small color palette, such as DoorDash and Uber Eats.
EXAMPLE PAGES

Members of the target audience are less likely to want to scroll through heavy amounts of text and options, so keeping it simple was also key. Instead of having an icon bar/navigation with 4+ icons, a simple Home page and Profile Page were made to be less intrusive, putting the attention on the unique qualities of and items the small businesses had to entice potential customers, rather than the app itself.
In terms of typography, HWT Arabesque (an Adobe font) was chosen to maintain the "groovy" feel of the app in tandem with the colors, but only used sparingly for titles and logo text. A more legible, readable serif font was chosen to make reading comments and main text easier.
