Youtuber icon
& identity
In August of 2018, I was commissioned by popular gaming YouTuber, Twitch streamer and influencer Alexis "Alex" Maldonado (known by his internet alias "Quackity") to illustrate a new icon for his channel after submitting a winning illustration (left) in an art contest.
Through a long process of discussion and editing we finally came up with a finished, polished illustration (right) which he eventually chose to add a red background to and used for his channel.

DESIGN PROCESS

In order to cater to his brand as a more comedic and light-hearted content producer, several edits were made to the original duck mascot image.
First and foremost, to avoid copyright issues, the "LAFD" acronym on the beanie his is known for wearing was changed to "HQ" to echo the HQ in his original channel title, QuackityHQ. The duck was also given rounder, softer edges on its beak and eye shape to make it less menacing, as well as echo his original channel icon's more neutral expression/facial structure, seen to the left. Additionally, the color palette used for the duck's face was softened and muted so that it would seamlessly fit against any background. The beanie was darkened to contrast with the face further, and the rainbow chromatic aberration effect on the lining was removed to increase visual clarity when the image was shrunken down.
